My love for creating art began as a child whenever I could get my hands on paper, crayons, scissors, and glue. The magic of seeing a blank piece of paper become a colorful picture was pure joy! Though I feel I've been a creative person all my life, it wasn't until my 40's that I seriously pursued being an artist. It only took one class at a local art studio to re-ignite my desire to create art but with way better supplies, tools, and techniques! I love the challenge of finding new ways to express myself with art.
Using a variety of mediums and mixed media techniques, I may integrate acrylic paint, papers, gels, text, mark making, and at times found and recycled objects. In addition, I often incorporate layers of resin which gives the piece a glass-like quality and visual depth and dimension. Each painting develops as I continually layer and edit the surface.
My love of vivid color and texture is what motivates me whether working in an abstract or impressionistic style. Each painting becomes a journey guided by curiosity, intuition, and spontaneity as countless ideas guide me. Inspiration may come from a memory, words, music or what's happening around me. The painting unfolds as each successive layer leads me closer to my 'aha' moment. In the process of storytelling, I find it often reveals a universal truth. If I feel it, maybe someone else will too.
